THREE FAMOUS CHAMPION

FIGURE SKATERS

Over the years the Canadian toy manufacturing community has produced dolls on several famous Canadian Women. Reproduced here are paper dolls created to represent the dolls.

Elizabeth Manley

Doll artist Jeanne Venten created an all porcelain portrait doll of Elizabeth in 1989. The 16-inch doll captured the real live smile of the petite skater. The doll's eyes are brown glass but in real life Elizabeth's eyes were hazel. Only 32 porcelain dolls were made. A vinyl doll was created to make an affordable collectible available. The vinyl doll was manufactured by Wis-Ton Mfg. and Distinctive Dolls of Canada in 1989, 1990 and 1991.

Barbara Ann Scott

The original Barbara Ann Scott doll was a 15-inch composition doll. She was jointed at the neck, shoulder, and hips. She had a brown mohair wig, blue sleep eyes and open smiling mouth with six top teeth and a felt tongue. This particular doll is still one of the most sought after items by doll collectors.

Karen Magnussen

A 18-inch vinyl doll was produced by Regal Toy Company of Canada. Wearing a costume based on one Karen wore in Ice Capades, the doll had rooted blond hair and blue eyes. This doll was not a portrait doll and its face lacks Karen's sparkle and charming smile. The doll was sold in Canada in the mid 1970's.
